Yes, to participate in the Blue Bag Organics program you must have Walters Recycling and Refuse as your waste hauler. Walters is currently the only waste hauler in Lino Lakes offering curbside organics recycling.
The program is $79.95 (plus tax) per year. That's just $6.66 (plus tax) a month! Think of all of the greenhouse gases you would be saving the earth by signing-up for the program!
Give Walters a call at 763-780-8464 or send them an email if you're not interested in talking to people.
On trash day, simply hand tie the 13 gallon Blue Bag Organics bag containing the household's food waste and non-recyclable papers and place it inside (preferably on the top) your regular trash cart. Walters will separate all Blue Bag Organics from other trash at the processing facility, and off those blue bags will go to the composting facility.
It is a common misconception that when food scraps and food-soiled paper from meals are put into a landfill they will just break down. They will break down but they will produce methane and carbon dioxide, which are both greenhouse gases. If the food scraps and food-soiled paper from meals are composted then they do not produce these greenhouse gases. These scraps are turned into compost which is nutrient-rich soil that can be used to grow more food!
